Any consideration of Bankers Life and Trust and based index annuities?

Got a card in the mail address insurance issues of bankers. Agent thinks I should convert my IRA based on indexed annuities. A friend thought bankers do not have a good reputation and now I want one annuity at all, maybe a mutual fund instead of destination. Reflections on the appreciated bankers or annuities.
